*Restylane is an FDA approved natural deep skin filler that basically "pumps up the
volume." As we age, we lose collagen, fat and elastic tissue under the skin. Hence we
form wrinkles and folds that are characteristic of the aging face. *Restylane is a
NON-animal derived hyaluronic acid deep skin
filler.

Once injected,
the hyaluronic acid (the same substance found in our joints) maintains its form by
binding our own skin's water molecules to itself. Therefore, the fine lines appear less noticable and
folds are diminished instantly. The  effect is not permanent. The hyaluronic acid is slowly absorbed
over time (usually 6-18 months). It binds more water to itself as it disintegrates.
This means that
when you feel you need a repeat injection, you will likely need LESS hyaluronic acid to acheive
the same effect as the first time.

Most people with deep folds require
TWO syringes of *Restylane for their nasolabial folds, which
are the lines on either side of the mouth (see photos below). One syringe may be sufficient for some
people while others may even require three. Ask Dr. Nandedkar what is right for you. She will give
you an honest evaluation. If she does not feel that *Restylane is appropriate for you then she will
tell you and offer alternatives. Remember, all cosmetic consultations are complimentary!

Notice the folds around the mouth before *Restylane was injected.
This photo was taken minutes after  *Restylane was
injected. Notice the folds around the mouth are softer.
The pink will subside in  about half an hour and may be
covered with makeup. Over the next few weeks, the lines
will soften even further. Once you leave the office, no
one should know that you had *Restylane.

Helpful Hint 1: Do NOT take Aspirin or Ibuprofen type medications 3 days before or  3 days
after having *Restylane or bruising may result. We will give you ice packs and numbing
medication to minimize any swelling or pain you may experience. Everyone is different so
results and pain tolerance vary from patient to patient.

Helpful Hint 2. Do you have a history of cold sores? If you do then Dr. Nandedkar will give you
medication to take which will minimize the risk of cold sore formation due to the *Restylane
injection. Don't worry, *Restylane will not give you cold sores if you have never had one!
